Look what came for me yesterday! Sweet, sweet Gayle at Sparklejars won my Bloggiversary Giveaway a few weeks ago. So after she received her box of fabric, she sent me this wonderful cross-stitched sampler and other goodies, along with a beautiful postcard picturing Zion National Park.
Gayle, sweetie, you had no way of knowing, but when Vann and I got married, I requested that passage from 1st Corinthians be read at our wedding. Thank you so much, Gayle. I haven't decided if I'll frame it or make a pillow or wallhanging from the sampler, but you can bet I'll treasure it for the rest of my life.
Yesterday was quilting bee day. I belong to a small group called The Piecemakers who meet at each others' homes once a month to stitch and talk--and eat. I've blogged about them before but never really explained the group. Our number fluctuates, but we have around a dozen members, give or take. I think we're 13 presently. I have been a member since 1992.
Mary U. picked me up at 9:00 and we drove to to Rita's house in Vestavia, which is a suburb of Birmingham. Rita lives in a big house on top of a high hill. It was Mary's first time to visit Rita's house, Mary being our newest member. She was a little intimidated by Rita's driveway, which is quite a climb with limited turnaround opportunities. I have been known to back all the way down the thing, hands clinched to the steering wheel.
I have no pictures from our bee meeting. We did more talking and eating this time than stitching. Well, Barbara did work on her Grandma's Flower Garden. She's been stitching those little hexagons ever since I've known her, I think. But she only works on it at bee meetings, I suspect. And Gerry was working on a beautiful needlepoint stocking for her granddaughter-in-law. Cyndi was doing some embroidered blocks for a quilt for her first grandchild, who isn't even in the womb yet--but Cyndi wants to be prepared. I guess there was quite a bit of stitching going on after all, but I didn't take pictures. Sorry. I was too busy enjoying the wonderful quiche and the pear-cranberry crisp that Rita had made.
On our way home (Mary was able to turn around in Rita's driveway and not back all the way down the hill), we stopped at the Fish Market. Mary got some Mahi Mahi for Walt to cook for dinner (her husband Walt does all their cooking), and I got a couple of pieces of Snapper. I marinated it in lemon juice and spices and cooked it in a fry pan with a little olive oil. We had it with baked potatoes and cole slaw for dinner.
Last night, we watched the national championship college football game between LSU and Ohio State. Another great victory for the SEC. LSU won 38-24 or something like that.
I have so much on my to-do list (my imaginary to-do list) that I don't know where to start. I'm thinking that starting with a second cup of coffee would be a good idea. Happy Tuesday, everyone.

You're welcome. I must admit I didn't make the sampler (it was purchased). I am currently on leave, but served as a volunteer chaplain for dementia patients for 3 1/2 years. First Corinthians and The Lord's Prayer often brought about a spark of recognition and a lovely light to their eyes. It wasn't until I began serving these incredible people that I fully understood/embraced this amazing scripture.
