I have been saying all along that I am not going to do any Christmas shopping this year. There are several reasons for this. First, although I love giving, I hate (I mean, I HATE) the commercialism of Christmas. It all makes me want to find me a soap box, climb up on it, and pontificate till the cows come home.
Second, I don't feel like shopping; shopping literally hurts my body. Any time I spend more than ten or 15 minutes at one time on my feet, I'm asking for trouble.
Third, I really would like to protest the whole 'tis-the-season-to-be-spending concept by boycotting all retailers for the entire month of December--which, of course, I can't do, as one must have milk, bread, and dog food.
So what all did I do today? I went Christmas shopping, that's what. And I did it so sneakily too. I had to pick up a couple of neighbor gifts for neighborhood get-togethers this weekend, so I told myself I was going to Books-a-Million (BAM!) to get two Paula Dean cookbooks, that's all. Well, BAM! is on the way to my favorite thrift store, so I decided to run by there and check to see if I could find some more Christmas plates to add to my holiday table. I found three Christmas plates; but even more wonderful, I found the lovely blue plate and the nice white platter in the photo above. The blue plate has a crack that is hardly noticeable, and the white platter is in perfect condition.
OK, then BAM! is right beside the Target store, so I decided to run in Target really quick to get a jug of milk. I should have stayed home and sent Vann to get the milk and the Paula Dean cookbooks. The minute I walked into Target I was snagged by the bear trap of holiday shopping. When I left Target, I had bought Nick and Nora pajamas (oh, such darling prints) for all the girls in the familly, area rugs to protect the new carpet, a new set of sheets for our bed (they were 40% off, for Pete's sake), ingredients to make half a million dozen cookies, a box of colorful Christmas balls, and, oh yeah, the milk.
And I still had to make it through BAM! I didn't do too bad there, though. Got the Paula Dean cookbooks for the neighbors, a Paula Dean magazine for me, and a Somerset Studio Gallery mag for me. All in all, the day only cost me about--well, never mind that. I don't even want to think about it. I just want to stretch out on the sofa with my heating pad and new magazines and stay there till all this holiday nonsense is over. Bah-hum-freakin'-bug!

Dear Mrs. Scrooge...
I hear you, girl! I went out yesterday with a short list. All the things my Mom wanted were nowhere to be found...a flannel shirt, a nut chopper of the old kind (no motor) and a sifter. Sounds simple. No luck. But I wound up buying me some socks, a pair of shoes and a purse! Seems like every year when I go Christmas shopping, I'm looking so hard for other people that I find things for me instead! But that's the only time I do it all year. Besides, my BD is this month and Mom was glad that I had bought my own presents..
And, like you, my body was screaming at me after just an hour...
I can't wait to relax. I love December 26th...

AAAACK!!! That blue one is my pattern!!! I don't use them now because my mom left her stoneware behind when they moved and it stands up to the kids better. I have service for 12, minus a saucer or three and a bowl or something. You might be able to see my butter cover in the china hutch picture. I love my dishes!

I found out a long time ago that we really save
money when I ask "Lovie" to go shopping for me.
Hope to see you Monday if I get out of the big
"C" center (my Sister) in time to get there.
My we are so blessed as we received very good
results.

Susan, you are not going to believe this...I have that whole blue dish set in the exact same pattern. I only use it once a year during christmas, I've had it forever. So amazing!
