Thrift stores, yard sales, garage sales, flea markets--aren't they fun? Going thrifting is like a treasure hunt. No telling what gem might be hiding in those collections of cast-offs.
The covered duck dish in the photo was priced at $2.95 at Joseph's Storehouse thrift store, so I bought it. I went across town to the local flea market mall and found the exact same dish for $25. I didn't buy that one. I don't remember the prices of the other two dishes in the picture, but they both came from thrifting.
These framed crocheted doilies were around $2 each at my favorite thrift store in Centerpoint. I hung them in my living room, where they get constant comments from visitors. I look at them and think of the hands that made them. I like to think that I'm honoring that talented person, whoever she was, by taking care of the work she left behind.
In Other News: My summer cold is hanging on. Or maybe it's allergies now. It's time the ragweed was popping out, so that could be my problem. There has been a noticeable change in the weather this past week. It's cooler (although still warm enough), leaves are beginning to fall, and there's that feeling in the air--that "the earth is tilting back the other way" feeling that's hard to explain. The light is different--softer, easier on the eyes. The air is drier. Every breeze seems filled with the promise of autumn. The hummingbirds are fighting for the best bar stool at the feeder. They're getting ready to fly to South America or Mexico or some faraway place. Only 26 more days until October.

Oh, do I EVER love thrift shops & fairs with tables of things other people deem 'junk' and I deem treasures! Hope your cold disappears and the allergies quickly follow! I, too, hear the air talking to me. Saturday I noticed the cicadas singing, according to my folks, a SURE sign that Autumn is dressing for her entrance. We even have red leaves in the tree by my front window - unHEARD of for Houston in early September! I couldn't be more thrilled! Life is GOOD!

I couldn't help but notice the hummingbirds. I was sitting outside reading a book and they were raising such a racket.
I hope your sniffles get better.
