Accomplishments

Well, I got a little bit done during the last two days of the week. Sister Ramey and I took in a few (3) thrift stores on Thursday. We visited one called Second Hand Rose not too far from my house. We had been wanted to check this one out for a while. We could have saved our energy. Oh the store was lovely, neat, clean, and smelled good. But the prices were outrageous. Can you imagine paying $150 for a pair of preworn pants? All the prices were higher than Ramey and I are wont to pay for brand new garments.  So after a brief look around, we skedaddled and took in a couple of others on down the road where the prices more fit our budgets.

We didn't find any real treasures, but Ramey did get a small table for her modem. I got a new water bowl for the cats and the pretty top in the photos below. All in all, we spent less than a fourth of what those Second-Hand-Rose pants cost.

After shopping--no, I think it was in between shops--we had a great barbecue lunch at Miss Myra's in Cahaba Heights. If you're ever in the Birmingham area and find yourself a might peckish, we highly recommend Miss Myra's.

I got all my tax records delivered to my tax lady Martha yesterday. So now my only remaining major task (for the moment) is getting my quilt delivered to Angela, my long-armer.  I'll surely get that done one day next week.

Happy Easter, Everyone.

It's a wonder how Second Hand Rose stays in business! Love your new blouse and hope you'll show us the cat's new bowl.

Well done in getting your taxes turned in. Phew!

Today I have dyed eggs using a Paas kit as always. Love to see rainbow eggs in the fridge.

Happy Ester!

Best Laid Plans

Taco floor Taco won't voice his wishes like Bella does. He just lies down in front of me and stares. I'm supposed to know what he wants. Sometimes I get it, and sometimes I don't

I didn't make it to the thrift store with Ramey. I didn't sleep well last night, and the pain was so much today that I spent most of the day on the sofa. I'm hoping we can make it soon though.

I got all my tax records together and was going to take them to my tax lady today, but didn't make that either. And I still have to take the dollhouse quilt to the long-armer. I hate when I have things waiting to be done.  It's stressful.

Some local people have got together and are holding a reunion for Leeds High School graduates in August. No particular class, just anyone who attended the school apparently. They're expecting 300 attendees. A friend from my class called me from Virginia to talk about it. She and a couple of others that I know of from my class are planned to attend. But 300 people. That's a crowd. I don't think that's for me. My class has held 3 reunions since graduation, and I attended every one. But a crowd of 300! And how many of them will I know? Just doesn't sound like a pleasant experience to me.

I'm going to bed now with a book. I've got behind on my reading.

Well, bummer to the max!

Might you ask someone to take your tax records where they need to go and to take your dollhouse quilt to the quilter? You can always take to those folks on the phone if they have questions, like your quilter, about thread color of quilting pattern.

Hope you feel lits better soon, my friend

Happy Easter!

Slow Moving Me

Dickens
Yeah, I'm still here, mostly at home unless I have to go someplace. I did go to church on Sunday and then out to lunch with Sister Ramey, the only place I've been in a couple of weeks.

Ramey and I are planning to check out the Presbyterian Children's Home thrift store tomorrow. I hope that pans out. It's in a town about 45 minutes from here out I20. I'll report if we make it.

I'm sad to report that I haven't done a thing in the sewing room lately. I've been trying to get my tax records together to take to my tax lady. That's always a trial and tribulation for me, made worse this year because of  technological problems (mostly printers). I think I'm almost ready to take them to her. Just waiting for one document to come in the mail.

The story behind the photo above: One day a couple of weeks ago, Sister Ramey was here and she suddenly said, "I know what I'm giving you for your birthday."

Turns out the Dickens book on my mantel caught her eye. On my birthday, she brought me the blue book with a cover she had made with the title "What the..." So now it rests atop my Dickens book for a funny statement. Thanks, Ramey.

Love the cross stitch and the books it rests on! Witty, indeed!

Hope the weather today is lovely so you and Ramey can enjoy the trip to the thrift store and maybe have lunch somewhere yummy!

Like you, I stay home most of the time and yesterday we wore ourselves out by running 3 errands including Kroger and the library. Today it's raining and is likely to rain tomorrow.

I'm about to sit down with my seam ripper and take two side borders off a wall quilt that's grown nearly larger enough to top a double bed! That outer border fabric is just not working.

A Two-Cake Birthday

What a fine and happy birthday this one turned out to be, although I finally do have to accept, I suppose, that I'm a senior citizen. I've been trying to ignore the fact for years. But I think it has hit me in the face this time.

Yesterday was my actual birthday. Daughter Andy, sister Ramey, and niece India joined me and Jesse for a lunch of barbecue and fixings, after which we had a delicious birthday cake compliments of Andy (photo below).

I got bunches of emails and internet messages and also calls from my nephew Jed and one of my longest-time best friends (we went to school together and were next-door neighbors), Bonnie Lois.

Today the festivities continued with more messages and emails. It was also the day for our monthly book club meeting, which we held this month at Edgars Bakery (which is a fine eating establishment in addition to an amazing bakery). After we had our soups, salads, sandwiches, etc., and I opened a bunch of birthday cards, Ramey surprised me with yet another birthday cake, one of Edgar's delicious strawberry cakes (photo below). So we all had dessert and went home stuffed.

The book we discussed was The Good Thief by Hannah Tinti, a rather weird but very good novel.

It is now 8:00 in the evening, but doesn't feel that late at all. I hate daylight savings time. I have been confused about the time since I woke up Sunday morning. I sat out in the car on the driveway for 20 minutes this morning waiting for my sister to ride to book club with me. Finally I took out my phone to call her and see what was keeping her and found I was a hour ahead. I'll probably stay off balance time-wise until we get real time back in the fall.

Cake-AndyMy lovely confetti birthday cake from Andy.

Cake-patThe scrumptious Edgar's strawberry cake, compliments of Ramey at today's book club luncheon.

A belated Happy Birthday to you, my friend.

I somehow convinced myself that your birthday was in April and never even looked at the calendar which would have corrected me. Sorry about that.

A Wee Bit of Progress

ISpy
So I have got my friend's baby grandson's quilt halfway pieced. Well, a little over halfway I think. I believe that another couple of hours on it and I'll be ready to take it to Angela for quilting--along with my dollhouse quilt for the June quilt show. I'm determined to have those tasks completed sometime next week. I also vow to get my records to my tax lady to file my return. Then I don't know after that. That's as far ahead as I dare plan.

Mattcrop - 1
I haven't been too enthused about the fad in wool pressing matts until now. They're so expensive! But then I saw one for cheap on Temu and decided to give it a try. And I'm very pleased with the results. Presses flat and neat.

I don't remember how much it was, but I think it was under 20 bucks.

I stitched long enough this morning to get my back thoroughly upset. It is showing me what it thinks of the activity with a great deal of pain. I took an Advil and I'm going to lie down and read for a while. I'm reading Since We Fell by Dennis Lehane, one of my favorite authors.

What a delightful baby quilt and such happy fabrics, too! This quilt will see a lot of love, won't it?!

Sorry this sewing set your back pain roaring. No fair and no fun. Time to sit with a book and some pillows and perhaps a heating pad.

Hope you can meet your goals to get this quilt and your charming doll house quilt to your quilter in the coming week.

Hugs!
