Joann's Haul

Blog - 1 (1)

Blog - 1 (2)
Our trip to Joann's Fabrics was fruitful, at least for me. I found some great brown fabrics and a print that will be perfect to back the autumn panel quilt I'm working on. Ramey got a bag of candy corn, a treasure in itself as far as I'm concerned.

And I got daughter Andy a just-because gift--these sweet Halloween socks to celebrate the fact that her broken ankle is healing fast. She's back at work and doing fine.

I'm so glad you found some delightful brown fabrics for your project and those socks are too cute! How wonderful Andy is doing well, too.

That pretty leafy fabric is just like one I've had for more than a decade but methinks mine has a slightly more golden background color. I love that fabric and am amazed it's still for sale.

Hugs!

Autumn Quilting

Crop squirrel - 1
I worked in the sewing room much of the day yesterday. I got bored with working on chickens, so I made this squirrel block for my autumn panel quilt.

PanelHere's the panel.

I have a few acorn blocks made, and will make some more. Also I'll make some autumn leaf blocks. I'm not sure what else. I really don't have a firm plan yet. Probably some pumpkins.

Gotta go. Sister Ramey and I are going to Joann's in Hoover. I'm in search of some brown fabric. Walmart (the only fabric source near me) had only one brown, one I already had.

What a cute squirrel and I agree he needs acorns and autumn leaves! On or two pumpkins near the bottom (they are heavy!) would look cute, too.

Hope you find a suitable brown fabric at JoAnn's.

Well done in getting so much sewing accomplished!!

Finished Flimsy

Farm Finished - 1

The Farm Animals quilt top is finished. And now I'm back to working on the chicken quilt.

Chicken Finished - 1
We're having lovely early autumn weather here. I'm very much loving the cooler temperatures and the lower humidity.

I hope everyone is looking forward to a pleasant weekend.

I Hit a Snag

7e4a2d5b2b1520ca8b9f6212aa80765a

The best laid plans, as they say. I was sure I would have the farm animals quilt finished yesterday, or even the day before. But as I was putting the rows together I realized something was wrong. The quilt contains three vertical rows, and as I was joining them, I found that one row was an inch shorter than the other two. So while I was picking out stitches (I hate picking out stitches), life intervened and I had to put the whole thing aside. I haven't been able to work on it today because I had an eye-doctor appointment (all was find with my peepers) and had to get my oil changed. I'm home now, but it's almost 4:00 p.m. and I'm bushed. I'm determined to finish it up tomorrow, no matter what comes.

I have several more projects I want to finish, plus I've come upon a couple more I want to start. Wouldn't you just love it if you could finish one thing before starting another? Maybe you do, but I just can't.

BTW, I've finally updated my books-read list in the left sidebar if you keep up with that. I hear my oven beeper, so that means my lunch (very late lunch) is ready. More later.

It's probably too late now, but I suggest you put in a strip of fabric here, there, or elsewhere so your rows come out even, no seam ripper involved.

Alas, I also start a new project before I finish the one I'm working om or ... the one before that, etc, hence lots of UFOs.

We've had lovely rain today and it's cooler!! What a blessing.

Hugs!

I truly loved Cold Mountain also and was looking forward to the movie. What a disappointment. With Thirteen Moons I enjoyed it a whole lot more the second time around. I've been remiss. I need to check into the others he has written.

The Sunflowers Have Bloomed

Sunflower2 - 1

I now have all the blocks done for the farm animal quilt.

It's a pretty laid back Labor Day around here. Nothing doing. For some reason, this has never been a big holiday for my family, even though we are a labor-loving family. My daddy was a member of the International Brick Layers' Union, part of the AFL-CIO.

"They" say you can't wear white after today, but I never have paid much attention to that either. I don't wear much white anyway.

I missed acknowledging September 2, on which day Vann has been gone 14 years. Unbelievable. I still know exactly what his hugs feel like. And I can sometimes close my eyes and feel him sitting next to me.

Enough of that. I didn't mean to get maudlin.

I just realized I need to update my books read list in the left sidebar. I think I've read quite a few good books since I've added any to the list.

Love your lovely sunflower blocks and look forward to seeing your farm quilt in due time!

Big hugs as you remember dear Vann. This time of year I remember my mother and AMIL. Sweet memories, indeed.

The 'Ber Months Are Here!

Nlrgo65yf2m91
And it even feels a little like Autumn this morning. A wee bit cooler, yeah. But there's just a feeling in the air and something in the light when Autumn is on the way. I can feel it.

I'm going with daughter Andy today to find out if she has to have surgery on her ankle. I pray it's healin in the boot and no surgery will be necessary.

I haven't been in the sewing room in about a week now. Maybe tomorrow.
