Blue Days; Black Nights

BedI stopped using a handmade quilt on my bed because of the animals.  Skipper put a hole in one, and the pet hair and tracked dirt meant I have to wash my spread more often than I like to wash my handmade quilts.

These days all I want to do when I get up in the morning is go back to bed. But I haven't done it yet. I keep on keeping on. It's so hot and the world has gone to heck in a hand basket and every day I have to look harder and harder for the good. And now I have to find a foot doctor. The foot pain is to the point where I can hardly walk and my primary care doc doesn't seem worried about it when I bring it up.

Whine, whine, whine. Where's my cheese? I know I have much to be grateful for, but sometimes I just have to whine out my problems. Bear with me.

I have 20 blocks of Karen's log cabin quilt done. Twelve more to go. I love making log cabin blocks. There now: there's something to be grateful for.

Oh, your bed looks so very inviting methinks I'd find it difficult to stay out of it, too! Love the pink doll cradle visible on your bedside table! You make me want to paint over our bedroom wallpaper!
I also stopped using my quilts due to the cats but now they seem too hot to sleep under.
The Ukraine quilt was mailed to Germany today and - heaven help us - the postage was nearly $60. Yikes! I wonder if it would have been less had I marked it as a "humanitarian donation" on the customs form?

Hugs!

What About This Heatwave?

Strips

I hate hot weaver. Any temperature higher than 85 sets my hackles rising. So needless to say, I'm staying inside as much as humanly possible.

I have 11 blocks made for Karen's quilt--31 more to go.

I'm also working on Stage 2 of decluttering my house. When I get this current load delivered to the thrift store and God's Closet (a local charity that supplies free clothes and food for those in need) I'm going to audition a new cleaning lady. I have finally realized that I can't keep this house as neat and clean as I want it, so I need help.  I phased out Merry Maids almost a year ago. They just weren't doing any better than I can do.  For the price, they weren't worth the trouble.

Now I'm going to update my reading list in the left sidebar, then I'm going to read for while until time to start dinner.

So sorry about the heat. I can't invite you here to Northeastern Oklahoma even though it was in the 50's this morning; by tomorrow it will be in tne 90's with horrible humidity. We live among many tall pines here in the hills, The humidity makes everything miserable even though we have a river and several large lakes nearby, it is not feeling cool.

We used to have a couple of ladies who cleaned. Almost immediately we started missing things, plus they did a terrible job. They were fired quickly and we've never hired any more. This is a large two story home but we aren't ready to move yet. My sweet husband vacuums and I try to keep the kitchen and bathrooms clean with his help.

My sewing room is o second floor in an area over the garage and the builder did'n't give that room enough vents, so the heat is too much for sewing.

Enjoy your piecing and let's hope this terrible heat wave goes away before the worse heat of July and August starts.

Well done on those great fabric strips for the new quilt!

Knock wood, but it's been oddly cool here with a few days in the low 90s*F but mostly days in the 80s*F and a few days in the upper 70s*F and I cannot complain about that. This is the forecast for early July, too.

Wishing you well at finding a new and excellent cleaner. Perhaps friends can suggest worthy cleaners?

Hugs!

Thank you for updating your reading list. I keep an eye on it for another good read.

My parents and sisters are from England. I'm their American born child. I say my genetics are such that I can't take this heat!! At 90 and above I stay inside with the air. Because of the electric bill, I keep it at 76 with a fan blowing. I use the air in my car all year! Joking about genetics because my one sister loves the desert heat.

Friends are the best to ask about a house keeper. I've listened to my sew group talk enough to know don't go with Merry Maids. They all use self employed ladies that they had recommended by someone. Like the commenter above, my husband and I clean together.

Cabin Going Up

Karen's quilt - 1

I have all the pieces cut out for Karen's log cabin quilt and five blocks sewn-  They're 14-inch blocks and I need 42 of them-  So we're off to a good start- I'm pretty sure I can be finished- get it to Lena for quilting- and have it bound and ready to give to Karen before Christmas--maybe even before Halloween

I expect to have a new computer delivered today before bedtime-  I'll be so happy-  No more copying and pasting letters whose keys don't work or using hyphens for periods or restarting everything every few minutes

I hope it's not as hot as you-know-where in your corner of the world-  It's horrible here and I know other areas of the country are even hotter-  Everybody be safe

Well done on the good start of this oh-so-cool Log Cabin quilt!!
Hope your new computer is a dream come true and that it arrives on time.
Yep, it was in the low 90s*F here today but rather than the next 4 days being equally hot, the forecast is for mid to upper 80s*F so that's a good deal!
I finished sewing the binding on the Ukraine quilt today and did both rounds by machine as this quilt needs to be sturdy as who knows what kind of future it may have.

Hugs!

Two Blue Ribbons

Nell's photo

"The Dance" won first place in the large quilts category plus a blue ribbon for Best Piecing- I'm tickled--but humbly so- There are lots of talented quilters in our guild and many amazing quilts hanging in this year's Quiltfest

Today is the last day of the Quiltfest-  I'll be heading out in a bit to the show to have another look at the quilts- visit the vendors- and pick up the quilt at 6:00 after the close-

I hope everyone is having a good weekend-

Tuly amazing! Congratulations. Your talent is off the charts. So happy for you for taking home all three ribbons, including best of show. This deserves to be in a magazine, I hope that it will be.

I meant to offer congrats for all three ribbons, meaning Viewer's Choice instead of Best of Show which it must surely be anyway!
