On the Beach

279452919_10220901875592787_5444560247613822278_n

Andy and I arrived at the condo in Panama City yesterday afternoon We had a delicious dinner of fried shrimp/french fries/coleslaw/and hushpuppies from Thomas's then spent the rest of the evening trying to figure out Stuart's WIFI-  We finally got it  I checked my email then went to bed with my book - I'm reading The Guncle by Steven Rowley- Truth to tell I'm getting a little bored with it  I'll post a review on the Reading List when I finish

Today Andy is on the beach soaking up rays- As for me I'll get enough sun from the balacony--and I can see and feel and sell the water and sandy-  i really am not a sun worshipper and I don't like getting sand in the nooks and crannies

I brought "The Dance" to finish binding/ a jigsaw puzzle/ and plenty of books on the Kindle- I have plenty to keep busy

Oh, lucky you and Andy! I'd be with you indoors or in the shade due to lupus.
I enjoyed The Guncle but agree it's not a rollicking adventure or one with a scary plot.
Have a wonderful time and don't get any wrist bothers from sewing for too long at a stretch.
Please have some lobster for me... ahhhhh!
Yesterday I finished the Ukraine quilt top and wish I knew of some group that would quilt it and send it safely where its needed. Do you have any ideas?

Hugs!

PS

Thanks to Patty's comment about my book lists I recalled that it had been a while since I updated it-  I haven't stopped reading- The list has been a victim of the same malady of the blog: lethargy-  It is now updated in no particular order- I hope I didn't forget anything-

Thank you for the update. I've always loved reading. With aches and pains as I age, I'm spending more time with books. I love to sew and garden but reading is becoming my first love.

More Chickens

Chicks2 - 1

Here's a look at all the "Chicken Salad" blocks I've sewn-  They actually aren't finished-  Some will need embroidery and all will need eyes and borders-  That's the millefiori

I've felt a little bit better today than I have for quite a while-  In fact this morning was quite good for a little while-  I was out of bed for almost an hour before I had any really bad pain-  This afternoon I was able to get the binding sewn onto the bad of "The Dance"-  That's the English hand-pieced millefiori quilt you might recall that I started last year-  Daughter Andy and I are going to the beach at the end of this week and I plan to take it along to sew down the binding on the back of the quilt-  I'll also take a jigsaw puzzle and a good book-  I am in no way a sun worshipper and will not be spending a great deal of time in the sand and sun-  The condo balcony which overlooks the sand and surf is good enough for me-  Andy on the other hand loves to lie on the beach-

Note: I just noticed that the photo is horribly out of focus-  I think I had the camera on the wrong setting-

I'm so glad you had even a brief respite from that pain, my friend.

LOVE Chicken Salad and I always admire your wonderful applique! Perhaps you should take Chicken Salad to the beach with you?

The Dance is a world class accomplishment and am glad you're bravely getting it bound.

Hugs!

Hi Susan, I don't check in often but always love seeing what you're working on. I've done one Lori Holt quilt... but that was before she started doing her quilt patterns with required templates. I'm for the simple route of sewing. You seem to be great at applique..I'm not. I recently finished a sunflower quilt (pattern by Vanessa at Lella Boutique). It's at the quilters now, and it turned out great. I had decided to do it long before the sunflowers for Ukraine came about.
Also....just finding out about your precious doggy. So very sorry for your loss.
I hope you have a nice relaxing time away and recuperate from your surgery.

P.S. I had the same problem with my computer. The "A" didn't work. I never realized how many A's are typed! So I eventually had to invest in a new computer. So glad I did. It was worth it.

Checking In

Here's some photos of Taco and Bella just to let everyone know we're still with you--as you see Bella is not an easy cat to photograph  i seem to be spending a lot of time on the couch lately because it hurts a lot to be on my feet - doing what has to be done and not much else  I have spent a little time in the sewing room   I've sewn a few more chicken blocks--I can do that sitting

If anyone out there has an effective treatment for joint and muscle and back pain that I haven't tried I'd sure like to hear about it

It's good to hear from you and I love seeing Bella and Taco, too!

Flexaril is a good RX for muscle pain and, if it's legal in your state, strains of cannabis will help joint pain and back pain without the blood thinning properties of aspirin and the like.

Please check your email for another thought. :)

Hugs!

Hi Susan. Taco looks beautiful in the picture. Her color combination along with being 'full figured' looks so good.
Wish I could give you a suggestion for joint and back pain but I haven't found anything. For a severe pinched nerve in my back, I received a shot in the spine in Dec.. It has helped a lot. Knee pain is another thing. Cortisone shots have not worked. Ibuprofen, 800 mg, helps but of course there are warnings on using that too often. My new prescription is to lose 40lb. and eliminate sugar. I'm trying but not always successful. It's slow going.
I read your reading list and there are many books I've put on my must read list. So happy to see you enjoyed Hail Mary as much as I did!! I enjoyed The Martian and would probably give it 4 stars but Hail Mary is by far my favorite. I agree, if possible, I'd give it 5 extra stars. I loved Dr. Grace and especially Rocky. For me, the ending was perfect. Thank you for your hard work of critiquing each book.

Good Morning!

Your blog is such a joy! There is one blog that I have read for years but she has so much advertisement on it that I am finding all the moving, jumping ad boxes that partially block the script
that I am so irritated by all that mess that I almost never read her blog anymore.

Your pain sounds so very much like what I endure daily as well. We are getting a stair lift installed on Monday. My sewing room is upstairs. My sweet husband has moved my sewing machine down to the formal dining room table for now. We build this home when we retired 19 years ago before I deverloped lupus. I had no joint and back issues then.

I've had back surgery, neck surgery, knee replacement in one leg, shots, ablations, various meds, artificial vertebrae and a spacer inserted in my neck, and my neck has been fused. However, the pain only gets worse. I sure wish that I had news of some trearment that would help your pain. Opoid pain pills are the only thing that cuts the pain enough for me to function. I have to use a walker and a lift chair.

Your chickens are beautiful. I love that pattern! Taco and Bella give you such joy I'm sure. Our beloved Sparky dog is now only ashes in a little box on the nightstand. We are just too old to get another dog. We don't enjoy cats- so it's just the two of us together in this big house on this large 15 acre place, We love it here and won't move until we absolutely have to.

Please know that I always read your blog and so enjoy every word and every photo. I raeely comment due to my hands being so painful when I try to type.

Prayer keeps me going. May you continue to be able to quilt. I'm working on my third extra large king size quilt this winter and spring. I now send the large ones out to be long arm quilted. Until now I had been quilting them myself. You have inspired me to use someone else to do the quilting. I am amazed at how many more quilts that I can now get done1

Please know that you are an inspiration! Sandra Hutchins

Please excuse all the typos in my comments. I am using an Ipad and have so many difficulties using it. The silly thing seems to have a mind of its own for sure. Sandy Gail

Blakely's Quilt

BlakelyBlakely's mom sent me this picture of her little girl and the quilt I made for her

Bear Fini - 1It seems I never took a photo of Blakely's quilt after it was quilted and bound but here's a shot of it before it was quilted

The days seem to fly by and I never get everything done that I need and want to do - Looks like I haven't blogged in a couple of weeks - This week is supposed to be a little less filled than recent ones so I'll try to keep up - I have a few photos from last week's quilt bee  to show

Bye for now

Too sweet! Wee Blakely is certainly pleased with her quilt! Did you ever put eyes on the bear?

Hope the week ahead is peaceful and that you feel like doing all you choose to do.

Hugs!
