Autumn Splendor

Autumn is my very favorite time of year. But autumn in Alabama has been piddly these past few years--hardly any color. Leaves would mostly just shrivel up and fall to the ground. I figured it was due to global warming or the hole in the ozone, or El Nino, or maybe even a Republican conspiracy. But this year, Autumn returned to Alabama in her full get-up, as the photo below shows (a tree in my backyard).

Dscf0040_1 The leaves have about all fallen now, though. The trees wear mere skeletal reminders of the Sunday-go-to-meetin' outfits of a couple of weeks ago. It's warm and muggy tonight, and we're told that severe storms are moving toward us from the west, with cold weather fast on their heals.

I love cold weather; but in this autumn of my life, it hardly loves me. Any change in weather causes my fibromyalgia symptoms to shake, rattle, and roll. But cold weather is the worst of all. I guess it's the price I pay for weather I love.

JOURNAL QUILTS: I had a great idea today for my journal quilt theme. Under my cutting table, there's one of those huge gift bags--the kind you use to gift large toys, quilted jackets, or tackle boxes. That's where all my scraps from my quilts and other fabric projects go. It has been collecting for several years, now, and is, as we say down here, "slap full." I thought it would be fun to make each journal quilt predominantly from these scraps.

DOGGIE DOINGS: Sophie and Vann are up the street visiting with a neighbor, one of Sophie favorite people (anybody who gives her snacks and treats is a favorite people). I think I'll go downstairs and get in a few minutes of reading before they return. I have just started a book entitled Comes a Horseman (wasn't that a Robert Redford movie). It's supposed to be really scary. Sounds interesting so far. Oops! I might be too late. I think I hear them now. Ooooooo-wee! Listen to that wind.

Conquering the Learning Curve

I think I have the site set up like I want it, I can post entries. Now it's on to learning to post photos and other images. Here's a photo of a project I worked on a few weeks ago at my quilting bee's annual retreat. I call the piece "315 Y seams." It took a lot of support and humour to get me through the stitching of all those maddening Y seams, but I made it.

Life on Blackberry Creek: Day One

I'm beginning this online journal in an attempt to organize my life and work and get more done. I have always been a word person; writing things down helps me to make progress in all areas of my life. So here goes. First I have to learn to use this blogging site.

Susan,
I just came back here to your beginning entry in November 2006 and noticed I was one of the first to shout out to you. You have been a faithful and fabulous journalist. Isn't it a great way to keep a diary? Can't think of a better way to chat with friends...except with a cup of coffee in hand leaning over the back fence. Sending hugs your way.
:D
